Keeping the Holiday Spirit in Your Office

With employees using the last of their vacation days, bad weather causing late arrivals to work, and other little inconveniences that seem to pile up during the last stretch of the year, keeping holiday cheer in the office is typically the last thing on every business owner’s mind. However, entrepreneurs shouldn’t miss this special opportunity during the holidays to increase employees’ job satisfaction.  Here are some tips on how you can keep the spirit of the season alive in your office during the holidays:

  1. Be flexible when your employees ask for an extra day off. This may be the only time of year they are able to spend with loved ones, and it may take hours on the road or a long plane ride to make it happen. A great boss is an understanding one – show you care by giving them those few hours they need to catch a flight and make it to their family’s annual holiday reunion. Your kindness will be remembered long after the end of the year.
  2. Celebrate the season with your work family! Take time to plan a small holiday party where you exchange gifts and wear ugly sweaters. It offers a great way to get to know your employees on a more personal level. Let employees decorate their office space and encourage them to bring their partners and family members to company gatherings.
  3. Give back to your community. Your employees pay attention to the good that you do for others. Organize a company toy drive or sponsor a family’s holiday decorations, meal, and gifts. Whatever you do, get the whole team involved. Nothing brings people together quite like giving. Why not reinforce the idea that your company is a team by doing something for those in need together?

You don’t have to throw the biggest company party in history to give back to your employees. Every little act of kindness will make a difference in their lives.
